Central AHEC, Inc. Receives Capital Workforce Partners funding for the 2nd Annual Advancing Health Education and Careers Summer Institute
The Advancing Health Education and Careers (AHEC) Institute was funded by Capital Workforce Partners (CWP) in 2007 to provide a career competency building and workforce readiness program for Hartford youth. Through the AHEC program, 28 Tier 1 students were successfully engaged in career exploration, public speaking, verbal communication skills, and job seeking skills, and met or exceeded 100% of goals and deliverables. This year, Central Area Health Education Center, Inc. (CAHEC) will expose a total of 80 youth in tiers 1 and 2 to the vast opportunities in the medical field as well as to other targeted industries in Bristol and Bloomfield such as insurance and finance, retail and hospitality, and advanced manufacturing.
Similar to the 2007 AHEC Institute, the CWP “Careers in our Community” theme for 2008 will be incorporated into our program in several ways including speakers and/or tours of various work settings weekly, shadowing opportunities for each student in their preferred work industries, and volunteer opportunities within the community. Throughout the summer, 80 youth will be engaged in Bristol and Bloomfield through 8 exploration teams based on demographic location and career competency. Each team will work with an instructor to develop their dream and reality resumes and to create a portfolio, practice interviewing skills and master the basic skills necessary for workforce achievement. |
