Collegiate Health Service Corps

Collegiate Health Service Corps The CHSC is a three-tiered volunteer and service experience for undergraduate college students. Participants gain real life experience, build their resumes, and become part of the surrounding community. The mission of the CHSC is to expose undergraduate students to health careers through service learning experiences that promote preventive health care to underserved communities.

The program includes three major program components: College Student

Core Training:

A highly interactive workshop that covers the following topics:
  1. Eliminating Health Disparities by Working in an Interdisciplinary Team
  2. Ethics and Legal Issues
  3. Health Promotion and Health Education
  4. Health Literacy
  5. Information Management

Service Learning:

25 hours of education-based service work in the community.

Reflection: Two 1-hour reflection sessions where students come together to share their experiences and discuss the program.

Intermediate and Advanced levels of the CHSC include training in First Aid and CPR. This program currently runs at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, and University of Hartford in West Hartford.

HIV 101: HIV/AIDS Introductory Workshop
Target Population: Junior and High School Students

Voices of the Future Mentoring Program: Health Education and Academic Enrichment Workshops
Target Population: Young Men ages 13-16

Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC):
  • Suicide risk and prevention for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth.
  • Provides prevention support, trainings, and resources to assist organizations, and individuals
  • Develop suicide prevention programs, interventions, and policies

  • Migrant Farm Worker Internship
  • Health Education and Basic Health Screenings in Clinics or Health Care Settings
  • Become CPR Certified
  • Gain Experience in a Hospital or Health Care Setting
  • Create you own Service Learning Project!!!
