What is the Elders Ready for Action Project?
The Elders Ready for Action Project (E.R.A.) is an emergency preparedness outreach, education and engagement project for older Americans 60 and over created by Central Area Health Education Center, Inc.
What is the Mission of the E.R.A Project?
The mission is to support and increase the independence of older Americans through improved access to emergency preparedness education and resources.
Who is Eligible to Receive Services? All older Americans ages 60 and over living in CT are eligible to receive services. Elders Ready for Action targets persons of color living in Hartford, Windsor and Bloomfield who are frail, and in the greatest economic and social needs as determined by the North Central Area Agency on Aging
What are the E.R.A. Project Services?
The E.R.A. coordinates the following services:
- Emergency preparedness outreach and education for 1200 individuals
- Health education and training workshops for 300 individuals in 3 CT area towns
- Distribution of emergency preparedness kits for up to 300 eligible individuals
- Continuing education recruitment and training through an older Americans Community Emergency Response Team
- An advisory committee to improve emergency preparedness knowledge and services to senior centers, senior housing facilities and for all older Americans
- Referrals to collaborative agencies that provide emergency preparedness and/or the North Central Area on Aging as appropriate.
The Elders Ready for Action Project builds community awareness, supports emergency preparedness and coordinates services to older Americans, senior centers/senior housing agencies, through collaboration with local and regional emergency response agencies including the Capital Region Council of Governments, Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs), Medical Reserve Corps, Dept of Emergency Management and Homeland Security and other related stakeholders.
The E.R.A. Project uses best practices and curriculum from “Get Ready” (PA Health Dept.), Ready.Gov (Dept of Homeland Security) and “Emergency Preparedness and You” (Centers for Disease Control). |
