| Dear Friends,
Since taking this position 8 years ago I continue to be amazed and impressed by the wonderful and meaningful work that happens at Central AHEC, Inc. I take seriously my responsibility to help the agency grow and to address health disparities in our service region.
We continue to receive high marks on our financial audits because of the expertise and integrity of our fiscal consultant and our Board of Directors. Like many small non-profits our financial base is grant funding and through the excellent services provided by our staff our funding at present is stable given the current environment.
Through the generosity of the City of Hartford we recently relocated to 2 Holcomb Street on the 5th floor in Hartford’s North-end. Although our AHEC service area is Hartford, Tolland and Middlesex counties and the towns of Meriden and Wallingford many of our program recipients are residents within the North-end. Our services and support areas are aligned under three headings and our programs are developed based upon current community need and agency vision. They are:
- Education and Workforce Initiatives (teaching and skills development)
- Health Disparities (advocacy and care services), and
- Community Collaborations (building necessary partnerships)
Please browse throughout our website to learn more about our current programs within these service areas. Central AHEC has been fortunate to have become a mentoring/training site for many local college student interns, the Job Corp Academy, and high school volunteers. We are certainly a better agency because of the students’ presence.
Our updated website is one of the many ways we continue to reach out to those who would like to be a part of our community of service. We will continue to look for ways in which to reach out and engage students, parents, consumers of our services, and funders and work to make it easier for those who would like to contribute personally or financially to Central AHEC.
If you have encountered AHEC staff in the community, on our health care van, in a local high school, teaming up with medical students to provide health care to CT’s migrant farm workers, or at an education session for women of child bearing age, then you are already aware of the talent, dedication, commitment and caring of this dynamic group. They continue to make the success of Central AHEC possible.
