Health Education
The Health Education programs and services at Central AHEC provide individual, group and community level interventions to increase awareness of health disparities, reduce health risks and build prevention skills.
Two programs are currently offered under this focus area: Health Equity and Heart Strong.
- The Health Equity Program seeks to engage community members in faith based and non-profit organization in discussions, advocacy and actions to reduce health inequities among underserved communities in central Connecticut.
- Heart Strong is a three year initiative funded by the State of Conneciticut Department of Public Health to reduce the risks of heart attack and stroke among African and Caribbean Americans ages 35 and over through screenings, referrals to primary care and prevention education sessions conducted at faith and community based agencies, senior service organizations and safety net sites.
