What is Voices of the Future?
Voices of the Future is a youth development and mentoring program created by Central Area Health Education Center, Inc.
Youth in our program enjoy 16 weeks of one to one mentoring and weekly health education workshops that help build self esteem, improve academic performance and increase their ability to make positive life choices.
Eligible Candidates and Referral Process
Adolescent boys ages 13-15 living in the Upper Albany and Northeast sections of Hartford, CT who are at risk for dropping out of school because of truancy, suspensions or decreased academic performance are eligible to apply.
Interested parties must complete an application and interview before enrollment. Youth agencies who serve this population in the target area are encouraged to make referrals.
Services Provided:
The Central AHEC Voices of the Future Program coordinates the following services:
- Linkage to trained, culturally competent and committed mentors
- Health education workshops that stress prevention, personal development and healthy life choices
- Academic enrichment activities that promote career readiness
- Skills development and encouragement to complete high school and pursue higher education
- Referrals to youth services as needed
