youth Health Service Corps Program (YHSC)

YHSC is a 12-15 hour long program designed for underserved high school students at schools who have 50% or more of their students receiving free or reduced lunch. YHSC aims to increase student awareness of health careers, enhance involvement in service learning, and strengthen acaemic and civic engagement while also fostering partnerships between secondary and post-secondary education and community-based organizations. This is done through health education workshops, guest speaker presentations, service-learning activiites, health fairs, field trips, and more. Our current partner schools are East Hartford High School, Hartford Public High School, E.C. Goodwin Technical High School, and Bloomfield High School.

Collegiate Health Service Corps Program

The CHSC's mission is to expose undergraduate students to health careers through service-learning experiences that promote preventative health care to underserved communities.

The CHSC health careers recruitment program that engages diverse undergraduate students as leaders in meaningful community service learning that addresses community health issues. Student volunteers are trained using a three-module curriculum that prepares them to serve in healthcare settings that serve the underserved. Once prepared, students choose independent service or group service-learning projects to complete a minimum of twenty hours of service to complete the program.

The classes are open to anyone in the community who is interested in being prepared for the unlikelihood of a cardiac emergency that can occur suddenly and without warning.  This course is also ideal for those individuals where CPR certification is a requirement of the job.
